Here's The Skinny On Having A Trimmer Tummy
August 17, 2010
Surgical and Non-surgical Options for a Trimmer Stomach and Abdomen
Certainly, the easiest route to a more toner tummy is to lose weight and exercise more frequently. Having said that, both of these options often become difficult undertakings and we begin to look for alternatives that will offer us quicker results. At The Plastic Surgery Group, we have several surgical and non-surgical procedures that can result in a slimmer waistline.
From a non-surgical approach, limited success can be had with an external treatment called Thermage, which is a relatively new, noninvasive procedure that employs radiofrequency energy that tightens skin and smooths out wrinkles. Advantages are that it is an incision-free procedure which is fast and typically requires no downtime from normal activities. Unlike lasers, Thermage can be performed on patients of all skin types.
Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a surgical procedure that contours the body by removing excessive fat tissue, usually from the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, or hips, but also from parts of the upper body. It is used to remove areas of fat that don’t respond to traditional weight-loss methods such as dieting and exercise. However, it does not result in significant weight loss, but rather a more contoured body shape.
Abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a "tummy tuck", is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen and to repair and tighten the stomach muscles. The outcome is a trimmer and tighter tummy which is more consistent with overall shape and muscle tone. Men and women can benefit equally from a tummy tuck. The best candidates are men or women who are in relatively good shape but have a protruding abdomen or fat deposits and loose skin around the abdomen despite dieting and exercise. This is especially true for women who have had multiple pregnancies, as well as older patients who have a loss of skin elasticity.
Fortunately, there are a lot of options in making that tummy more attractive. Weight loss and various surgical or non-surgical entities all lead toward the same goal.
